There are about
6 million U.S. golfers over the age of fifty, while
older golfers account for about one-quarter of all
golfers they play about half the total rounds. This
all sounds great until you consider these
statistics.
A
survey of nearly 1000 golfers revealed that in the injury rate was
significantly higher with golfers over fifty (65% injury rate) than
golfers younger than fifty(58% injury rate).
Older
golfers are more likely to be injured while playing golf, but they
are also more likely to sustain aches and pains that are not caused
by golf but nonetheless compromise golf performance.
Some
of the changes we see in older golfers are muscular weakness, lack
of flexibility, poor balance, changes in joints, bones and spinal
discs.
Although
the aging process is poorly understood the good news is that a
significant degree of age related problems in body function can be
prevented, slowed and possibly reversed by regular exercise.
Yoga
for Golf can offer the senior golfer a comprehensive and
personalized program.
Using
a flexibility and physical assessment it can be determined what golf
specific exercises are recommended to increase flexibility,
strength, balance, mental focus and over all physical fitness.
